More than 20 percent of APSU's students have military service, making the university the largest provider of higher education in the state for military personnel, veterans and their families. The university works hard to provide support and services to these individuals, and APSU is consistently recognized for its efforts at the state and national level. Earlier this year, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) designated APSU as a Veterans Educational Transition Assistance (VETS) campus. The certificate is awarded to institutions of higher education that not only prioritize veterans, but also successfully provide the services necessary to create an environment in which student veterans can thrive as they pursue their education.

The university does this through the APSU Center at Fort Campbell, the university's Military Education Task Force, the Honors Student Organization and the APSU Military Student Center. In 2013, APSU partnered with the Department of Veterans Affairs to create the VetSuccess on Campus program. This program places a full-time VA career counselor on campus to help veterans transition into student life and help them achieve their educational goals.

APSU also hosts military alumni and veterans awards ceremonies three times a year. During the ceremony, veterans, reservists and active-duty military personnel are awarded red, white and blue ribbons, which they wear with their hats and capes. APSU MilitaryCoin will also be provided to students. The university created a special coin in 2011 to honor these individuals.

APSU is listed in Victory Media's directory of military-friendly schools. For more information on Military Friendly Schools, visit www.militaryfri friendly.com.
