Glock 19 Gens - Glock has received a lot of love and criticism over the years for the way they "portray" their products. Some generations have had toenails, some have had them removed, and many other changes are disappearing in the face of change. So, to make it easier to compare the different generations of Glock, we've compiled a historical archive that provides a complete list of all the dramatic changes made to the polymer-framed, assault rifle, and personal favorite. each, from 1984 to the present. Austrian engineer Gaston Glock founded the GLOCK company in 1963. In the early history of the company, they produced knives, grenades and rifle belts for the Austrian army. The Glock 17 was first produced in the early 80s after a contract with the Austrian army, and quickly gained a reputation for reliability, ease of cleaning and accuracy. Glock quickly won contracts in Norway and Sweden, and in 1986 entered the US market, attracting the attention of US law enforcement.

Glock made a number of major changes to its "perfect" rifle in 1988, the most notable of which was the 6 upgrade kit that addressed some of the safety issues in the Gen 1 model. Added sights to the front and back straps for the first time and introduced several calibers. and models, including the popular Glock 19 and the subcompact Glock 26.

The third generation was introduced in 1998, with several minor changes, including an accessory rail for connecting the optics to the light. Controversial finger holes and finger rests were introduced to this generation, years after their usefulness was debated. Glock also expanded into new calibers during this period, joining the Glock 31 (.357 Sig) and Glock 37 (.45 GAP) and began offering new finishes (FDE and Olive Drab).
The Glock Generation 4 was introduced at the 2010 SHOT Show. A notable difference between the Gen 4 and 3 was the introduction of the Glock Modular Backstrap, which allowed users to change the backstrap for different purposes. Two press springs have been added to reduce wear and "Gen 4" is now engraved on the side of the stock slide. Several new Glock models have been unveiled, including the Glock 19X and 19, which combine the best features of the Glock 19 model by offering a full Glock 19 magazine receiver and a longer Glock 19 slide.
Finally, we arrive at the fifth generation, Glock's current pursuit of perfection. Some cosmetic changes have been made, the most notable being the nDLC coating on the slide. A thumb hole hasn't been introduced since the second-generation model and the slide stop has been redesigned to accommodate left-handed users. Glock also decided to modify the magazine well to make it easier to load by adding a small bevel to the flare. Finally, Glock Marksman Barrels were introduced with a stronger tolerance for better accuracy.
Although some may argue that nothing has changed for Glocks except the caliber and aesthetics, this infographic makes it clear that is not the case and gives you a better idea of the generation will be good for you. I've been using a Gen 5 Glock 19 since late August and have put about 4,000 rounds through it since then. I've done it the right way in a strict security exercise, without fire and rail and without privacy. I also used it for the second division, learning about internal modifications and parts replacement issues (because Glocks are fun hobby tools).
For the most part, the Gen 5 Glock 19 is just a Glock 19, but there are some fun and serious changes that warrant investigation. There are some caveats that first-time buyers should be aware of. I hope to cover most of them here, but keep in mind that these ideas are less than 2 months, several times a week. Another season can tell many stories.
Most of the research will be based on the first version of Gen 5 and Gen-5-user (for portability, shooting, accessories, etc.). For a full review of the Glock 19, I recommend you read the Glock 19 Gen 4 review ("Review: Glock 19 Gen 4 - After 80,000 Rounds").
Please note that the photos shown in this article do not show factory-new guns. Instead, these are snapshots of someone who uses energy a few days a week. They are planted a little.

The first and best thing to look at this gun is that it is a Glock 19; It is definitely the best target gun. It is large enough to carry a service gun and offers operational accuracy and a large magazine, while being small and light enough for everyday carry.
Also, the excellent reliability record provided by the Glock pistol should not be overlooked. From my own experience, I've fired over 100,000 rounds through Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glock pistols, and the only malfunctions I've ever had are due to non-Glock replacement parts and Cerakote work. With spare parts, Glock pistols are flawless, even in tough situations.
Specifically for Gen 5, you may want to consider the new Glock 19 for several reasons. First, the slide lock block is now two-part. So, if you are left handed, move the mag release to the right and have a perfect left handed gun. For those of you who like Glock pistols but not thumb guns, the Gen 5 comes with a fixed foregrip. No configuration required.
Gen 5 brings a bit to the shooting experience, and 2 things stand out. The Glock 19 has been an excellent shooter, it is easy to handle and has an accuracy that will exceed the capabilities of 99.9% of shooters. New to this experience comes a new Gen 5 barrel with a flat face.

After shooting a lot with Gen 3 and 4 Glocks, I noticed that the thumb hole was missing. I used to hold to fill my strong arms, but now it feels different. I don't think the difference is that bad, but since my fingers fit so well in my hand, this gun looks good to me. I know many people don't like them, many will be happy with this change.

The new pistol profile results in double the accuracy at longer distances (a 4" group at 50 yards, Glock says) I'm not good at getting a 4" group at 50 yards, but I've seen 25-yard groups that will was a little more on the Gen 5 compared to the shooting on the Gen 4. I can't say for sure, but I would think it was barrel specific.
The Gen 5 trigger may feel better than the Gen 4, but that's personal and hard to say. The Gen 5 trigger assembly is very different from the Gen 4, designed like the Glock 43. It has a "New York" spring trigger that uses polymer spring support and compression spring (not a cruciform bar spring. ). I tried the 3.5lb link and didn't notice any difference in press weight at all. So I tried a 2lb link and got the expected 4.5lb from the gun. Interesting.
Of All Glock's Handguns, The Glock 19 Gen 4 Is The Best
Most of the 9mm I run through the gun is a 115gr ball, but I have also shot the Federal Premium 147gr Hydra-Shock JHP, Speer Gold Dot 124gr + P GDHP, Federal Premium 124gr HST JHP, Hornady Critical Defense 115gr, and Hornady Critical Duty 135gr...all with flawless performance.
I have never seen a Gen 5 Glock 19 through 4,000 rounds. The only significant thing I can report is that during the first 1,000 times I felt a little bit from time to time.
