Of Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact Optics Ready, you'll find yourself a handful of plastic mounting plates for your preferred optics, two magazines, two grip sleeves for 17-round magazines (magazines not included), the firearm itself, as well as the obligatory rifle lock and paperwork. You will also get 3 extra rear grip panels, from the sizes you get S, M, ML and L. These grip panels are extremely easy to replace and require no tools.

The gun ships from the factory with suppressor height 3 dot sights that have proven themselves well with my Holosun 507c. It's also bisexual in the right way; everything is ambi with the exception of the magazine release which you can replace if you wish. To replace the magazine release, you only need the tools that hold the grip panels.

Side note: It seems to be random what type of box you get. Some of them are sent in plastic boxes, others are sent in cardboard boxes.

Gun liners I have never had the pleasure of owning; mostly because I absolutely loathed the 1.0 that started in 2005. Fast forward to 2020, the 2.0 has been out for a hot minute, and Smith & Wesson has finally released an optic-ready compact model.

As you can tell from the dimensions of the 2.0 Compact you saw above, Smith & Wesson definitely aimed this pistol to go up against the industry's most successful defensive pistol; Glock G19.

Since reliability is the shortest and non-conclusive part of this review, it's best to get that out of the way first. During 200 rounds I had no problems. 100 of these rounds were used during the first run. 50 rounds of 124gr Geco were used to zero and confirm zero after mounting/rotating the optic on the Walther PPQ M2 5″, 15 rounds of 124gr Federal HST were used to confirm zero with my ammo. The remaining 15 rounds were split evenly into 3 different magazines to practice some magazine changes from concealment.

The next range run was fortunately dry, so the remaining 100 rounds were pushed through the gun as quickly as humanly possible with three magazines used.

While I couldn't definitively tell you from personal experience that it is completely reliable, it fed 124gr 9mm ammo with no problem.

The ergonomics of the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact are frankly amazing. The herringbone edges on the slide quickly became my favorite factory teeth. They offer the most aggressive pull of any OEM chip I've played with to do pressure checks, go round and clean up bugs.

Satisfactory. It clings to your hand like a lava rock, and no amount of liquid on your hands is going to compromise that grip. To test this claim I dipped my hands in water and again in hand soap, with someone else's hands around the gun, they had a pretty hard time getting my hands to grip it and dropped the gun.

Now for the elephant in the room; the manual safety. I avoid manual safeties as a general rule... but I can be convinced if the price is right. While the price was indeed right, the manual safety on the M&P 2.0 Compact has been my favorite manual safety so far. It's slim, it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, and it's extremely tactile. You can both hear and feel when it is on or off.

For those who prefer brevity in their reviews, the Chip Edges are the best box teeth I have found on the market. The texture of the grip is embedded, not raised like most textures on the market, and it is extremely grippy. grip angle? It feels like it shifts slightly between grip inserts, with the small and medium insert it feels almost exactly like a 1911 in the hand. Finally, the manual safety is about as good as it's going to get on a gun under $600 (I picked mine up for ~$565). If you are someone who absolutely cannot stand manual safety, it is important to mention that the manual safety can be removed.

Although it has been noted that I haven't shot it much, I have gotten a good idea of ​​how it shoots. Despite having a single spring/single sword recoil unit, the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact shoots exceptionally well. The low bore shaft, along with the lava stone texture, makes for a very stable and very controllable shooter. Felt recoil feels less than a Sig P320 Compact and on par with a Glock 19.

The only major downside to how it shoots is the hinged trigger. While many people don't have a problem with a hinged trigger, it's something I really don't mind. Draw weight is ~5-6lbs which is not difficult at all. There's just something about a hinged trigger that can break me at distances over 15 yards if I'm not careful.
